17 June How to Use AI to Prepare for a Podcast Interview June 17, 2025By Will Strohl | 2 MIN READ AI doesn’t replace authenticity—it enhances it. Use tools like ChatGPT to prepare for your next podcast interview with clarity and confidence. Hint: It’s not cheating, it’s optimizing. Podcast interviews can be fun, insightful, nerve-wracking, or all of the above—especially if you’re not quite sure what to expect. But what if you could walk into that recording session already knowing the vibe, the types of questions you’ll be asked, and exactly how to show up as your best self? Welcome to the age of AI-enhanced interview prep. Whether you’re getting ready to hop on a podcast like SmartLess—where Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett casually dismantle the concept of a “boring interview”—or you’re prepping for a job interview, investor meeting, or a client intro call, this strategy will help you get there faster, easier, smarter (and calmer). Step 1: Know Thy Interviewer Before anything else, you need context. Grab the host’s name(s), their show’s website, and at least one or two relevant links—like their Apple Podcasts or Spotify page. Paste those into ChatGPT (or another AI assistant that’s connected to the internet—this requires a paid plan) and ask it to analyze their style, tone, and past content. “This person is interviewing me for their podcast/job. Here are a few links that show their work and tone. Can you help me understand their approach and what they care about?” Step 2: Feed It What They’ve Already Said Pick two episodes that best match your upcoming interview. Use a tool like Otter.ai to transcribe them. Upload those transcripts into ChatGPT and say: “These are full transcripts from past episodes. Use them to help understand how the interviewer asks questions, their pacing, humor, and what they tend to emphasize.” Step 3: Ask ChatGPT to Predict Your Experience Now that it’s trained on real examples, ask: “Based on what you know, what should I expect in my interview?” Look for insights about: Tone and vibe Interview format Common question types Length and pacing Likely goals or outcomes Step 4: Train It to Help You Sound Like… You Next, ask ChatGPT: “Can you generate a list of questions I’m likely to be asked?” Jot down how you’d want to answer, and feed that back in: “Here are my thoughts on each question. Use this to help script answers that reflect my voice, personality, and tone.” What you’ll get back is a working draft—not to memorize, but to use as a confidence booster. Bonus: This Works for Job Interviews Too Swap out the podcast host for a hiring manager, and the show for a company. Same idea. Same results. Example: Let’s Talk About SmartLess If you’re lucky enough to get invited on SmartLess, do your homework. The hosts love sarcasm, interrupt each other for fun, and thrive on spontaneity. That’s the tone you prep for. AI can help you nail it—before you even hit record. Final Thoughts: You don’t need to script & say every word. But with AI, you can walk in prepared, sharp, and ready to shine. That’s what sets you apart. Need help setting this up? Let’s talk. Let's Chat! We'd love to work with you. Let's talk about how.
