11 July Love ChatGPT? You’ll Really Love the Tools Built for Your Industry July 11, 2025By Will Strohl | 3 MIN READ ChatGPT — and tools like it — aren’t always built with your business in mind. In fact, for some industries, it might be the wrong tool altogether. It’s no secret that ChatGPT has changed the way we work. Whether you’re using the free version or paying for access to the latest and greatest features, it’s a powerful tool that saves time and generates ideas at lightning speed. Public Data vs. Vetted Knowledge By default, ChatGPT is trained on a massive collection of publicly available internet content. That includes blogs, forums, academic papers, and plenty of social media. If you’re using the free version, that data likely cuts off well before today. If you’re using the paid version, you can benefit from web browsing and plugins — but the information is still mostly unverified. Comparison of ChatGPT Free and Paid plans with respect to data access and capabilities. Feature Free ChatGPT Paid ChatGPT (Plus/Pro) Internet Access ❌ None ✅ Yes, via built-in browser Data Freshness ❌ Static/cutoff ✅ Real-time Can Look Up Sources? ❌ No ✅ Yes Can Verify Claims? ❌ No ✅ Yes (with citations) Use Cases Limited To Pre‑2024 info only Up-to-the-minute insights For everyday tasks like summarizing notes or writing social media copy, that’s often fine. But if you work in a regulated industry — like finance, healthcare, education, insurance, real estate, or law — relying on public AI models without verification introduces risk. You're essentially asking a very confident intern to advise you on critical decisions. And that intern LOVES Reddit! You should also carefully consider what you're putting into ChatGPT. If there is ANY client information in it, you might be actively (and accidentally) violating one or more contracts with them. Enter Industry-Specific AI Tools Some of the smartest companies right now are building (or adopting) industry-specific AI solutions tailored to their field. These tools are trained using vetted, proprietary, or regulated datasets — often curated by human experts. That means you’re not just getting answers fast… you’re getting answers that are right for your industry. Here are just a few examples: Healthcare: Tools like Tempus use real-world medical data that complies with HIPAA. Finance: Platforms like Trullion are purpose-built for financial professionals with vetted market data. Legal: Tools like CoCounsel or Harvey are trained on actual court documents, statutes, and legal precedents. Insurance: You can find tools like Roots.io that are focused on using vetted insurance data. Real Estate: AI platforms like C3 AI Property Appraisal provide transparent, explainable valuations integrated with existing appraisal systems. Restb.ai uses computer vision to extract insights from listing photos for appraisals, inspections, and MLS enhancements. So What Should You Use? The answer is... both. Use tools like ChatGPT for creative tasks, ideation, productivity, and lightweight content. But when you’re dealing with sensitive, regulated, or highly specific work, consider what your tools were trained on. And most importantly, ask who’s vetting the data. As a rule of thumb: If you wouldn’t trust the answer from a public internet forum, you probably shouldn’t trust it from a general AI model either. Looking Ahead We’re entering a new era of domain-aware AI. That’s good news — especially for businesses in highly regulated spaces.
