Our second and final session at DNN Summit 2021 was about upgrading DNN. After having upgraded literally thousands of DNN websites over the past 18 years, this session is the culmination of everything I've learned over that period of time. Most of the issues we run into tend to be completely avoidable.

We're nearing a year now that we've all been in various stages of unrest and lockdown in our respective states and cities.  With us all being separated, places closed, and looking at our homes and belongings, it's no wonder that e-commerce has grown at such leaps and bounds through 2020.  There was one glaring mistake that I kept running into, though, regardless of the size of the vendor.

Squarespace has been gaining traction ever since it was first released, and for good reason. It's hands-down one of the best options for any new company to launch their first website. You don't need to be technical to create and manage your website. Anyone with any level of proficiency with a web browser can be a web hero.

If you've been watching the journey of Hotcakes Commerce over the years at all, you know that it has a very interesting past.  It began as a different platform altogether. It became a wildly successful commercial e-commerce solution that consistently was in the top 3 products in the DNN Store.  It then became an open-source e-commerce platform, making it freely available to the world.  This is the solution you're reading about and know about today.

Our team has been working hard at delivering the next great release of Hotcakes Commerce.  We primarily focused on some updates that both our support clients and the community really wanted.  We’re very happy to announce that version 03.02.02 is ready for you and it brings with it some very popular updates.

I’m not yet out of Europe.  I’m sitting in my hotel room in Paris, enjoying the sounds of the city, just blocks away from the Eiffel Tower.  I spent about an hour last night after midnight, exploring the city.  I can’t help but reflect on what DNN has done for my life.  It’s quite literally changed it, for the better, time and time again.  As a minor and superficial example, over 15 years ago when I started with it, I never thought it would lead me to Switzerland or France, much less riding a scooter around the Eiffel Tower after midnight.  I’ve come a long way over the years, and so has our community.  We’ve all grown, and this conference marked an important new milestone in our mutual journey.

If you've been around DNN for a while, you may vaguely remember a monthly show that existed where myself and Joe Brinkman spoke about the various interesting news items of the month, and we also interviewed various folks in the DNN community. Well, it's back! That's right. This is the first of many DNN Hangout shows for you to enjoy.
